Are you trying to outwit #AI? Tryst of AI vs EI is dealt in this blog post. I suggest three #strategies for using #emotionalintelligence to overcome AI’s drawbacks. This post explains why, in some situations, people will always be superior to #technology. This post is a must if you’re interested in the future of AI or just a tech enthusiast.

A picture generated by AI about AI vs EI

Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) has come a long way in the last few decades. It is becoming evident that AI has the potential to be a big disruptor in a variety of industries.

As AI systems’ capabilities expand, there is rising concern that AI will one day be so advanced that it would represent a threat to humans.

I believe that by harnessing our emotional intelligence, humans may still outwit AI. “Emotional intelligence is a key to success.” — N. R. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys.

Let us look at three ways that emotional intelligence might be used to outperform artificial intelligence.

Creativity and Innovation

Creativity and originality are two of the most significant advantages of emotional intelligence vs AI.

Although AI can analyze massive amounts of data at breakneck speeds, it lacks the capacity to connect data with human experiences, emotions, and intuition. Creativity is required for the generation of novel ideas and solutions that AI cannot duplicate. Humans may blend their emotions and cognition to produce innovative and unique outcomes that AI cannot predict.

“Emotional intelligence is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. It defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; it determines the majority of our daily actions.” — John D. Mayer, psychologist who co-developed the concept of emotional intelligence.

ChatGPT4, for example, is one of the most advanced AI models in the world, capable of processing and generating human-like response. However, ChatGPT4 is still constrained by its programming and is unable to generate ideas or solutions that extend beyond its programming. Humans, on the other hand, are capable of original ideas which AI can’t!

  • A study conducted by IBM found that creative leaders are 81% more likely to outperform their peers in revenue growth.
  • A report by Adobe found that companies that foster creativity enjoy 1.5 times greater market share.
  • According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, people with higher emotional intelligence are more creative.

Collaboration and Cooperation

Collaboration and cooperation are second set of key advantages of emotional intelligence vs AI.

Humans have the ability to empathise and successfully explain their feelings in order to establish trust and connection with others.

“When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but with creatures of emotion.” — Dale Carnegie, American writer and lecturer.

This ability allows humans to collaborate in teams and achieve collective goals that AI cannot coordinate or facilitate. AI, on the other hand, can only obey established rules and protocols, making collaborative work in a flexible and dynamic setting problematic.

In the sphere of healthcare, for example, AI can aid in patient diagnosis and treatment, but it cannot provide the human touch and empathy required to create trust and connection with patients. A human doctor can use emotional intelligence to effectively engage with patients and create rapport.

  • A study by Google found that the most successful teams have a high degree of psychological safety, which is the belief that team members will not be punished for expressing ideas or asking questions.
  • A study by McKinsey & Company found that gender-diverse companies are 21% more likely to experience above-average profitability, while ethnically-diverse companies are 33% more likely to outperform their peers.
  • According to a report by the Harvard Business Review, emotional intelligence is the key to effective leadership, as it enables leaders to communicate their vision clearly, build trust with their team, and manage conflicts.

Resilience and adaptability

The third set of advantages of how emotional intelligence can be leveraged to outwit AI is resilience and adaptation.

Emotional intelligence improves resilience and adaptability, both of which are required for dealing with uncertainty and change that AI cannot handle or adjust to. Humans can use their emotions to inspire themselves and others, overcome obstacles and disappointments, and learn from mistakes and criticism. AI, on the other hand, can only operate within the parameters and constraints that have been put into it.

“If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far.” — Daniel Goleman

When a firm experiences significant changes, such as restructuring, downsizing, or mergers, employees may feel a variety of emotions, including dread, worry, and uncertainty. Employees with emotional intelligence can better regulate their emotions, stay motivated, and adjust to new situations. This cannot be replicated by an AI system.

  • A study by Accenture found that 91% of business leaders believe that the ability to cope with change is the most important skill for employees to possess.
  • A study by the University of Pennsylvania found that people with higher emotional intelligence are better able to cope with stress and anxiety.
  • A report by the World Economic Forum identified emotional intelligence as one of the top 10 skills that will be in demand in 2025.

Conclusion

Emotional Intelligence is an important aspect that differentiates humans from machines. It enables individuals to understand, regulate and use their emotions to the world around them. Although AI systems can perform tasks faster and more accurately than humans, EI provides humans with an edge in many areas.

Fostering better relationships, improving communication, making better decisions, promoting innovation, and enhancing resilience and adaptability are the key factors in EI. Emotional Intelligence is an essential skill and it is becoming increasingly relevant in today’s world.

Let us develop and improve Emotional Intelligence, to outsmart AI systems!!!
